State Forest State Park

We spent the weekend camping at State Forest State Park. It's in Colorado's "North Park" (which is northeast of Estes Park), the home of Colorado's moose herd. Ryan was deeply disappointed that we didn't see any actual moose, but we learned a lot about them. Turns out they're not native, but since the habitat was perfect they AIRLIFTED 36 of them in in the '70s and '80s. The herd is now up to about 600 and they issue a few hunting permits each year. Above is the view of the lake from our campsite. THIS is why we live in Colorado....

If you were to turn around from that view of the lake, you'd look up the hill to our campsite. Kind of funny, it was a "two story" campsite as Ryan says. The tent was below, picnic table and firepit on an upper terrace. Kind of nice and secluded.

Our cute tent.
And here's a grainy live action shot of Ryan chopping wood. He's a great fire builder. We did all of our cooking over the fire, which was a first for us. We were rather impressed with ourselves.
